As smart-home technology continues to reshape the security market, brands increasingly compete through features, specifications, and connected functionality. Approaching its centenary, Banham chose a different path, commissioning SUM to create a luxury website design that would place the brand, rather than product specifications, at the centre of its digital experience.
The company recognised that its greatest competitive advantage was a combination of qualities that competitors could never replicate: British craftsmanship, 100 years of innovation, enduring trust, and a reputation earned through generations of protecting some of London’s finest homes. In an increasingly commoditised category, Banham set out to reposition itself as a true luxury brand, by shifting the conversation from products to the values that had always defined the business.
Rather than leading visitors directly into technical specifications and feature comparisons, the site communicates the brand before the products. Heritage, craftsmanship, and expertise are brought to the fore throughout, creating a richer understanding of why Banham has remained trusted for 100 years. The result is an editorial-first digital experience that reflects the confidence and composure of an established luxury brand.
Behind the scenes, SUM developed a comprehensive information architecture and modular design system capable of supporting the breadth of Banham’s business, from locks and safes, to doors, alarms, and keyholding.
As with all web design for luxury brands, the emphasis has been placed on clarity and consistency over short-lived digital trends. The flexible design system enables new products, campaigns, and content to be introduced seamlessly while maintaining a coherent brand experience across every touchpoint.
Each Banham product is presented in the context of what it ultimately exists to protect: homes, families, and the possessions people value most. In doing so, the digital experience reflects the wider brand strategy, shifting the conversation beyond hardware towards the human value of security itself.
Banham’s previous website had remained largely unchanged for many years. Since launch, the business reports that the rebuilt pages have consistently converted more strongly than those they replaced, sustained across the months that have followed rather than as an initial spike.
Today, Banham’s website is more than a digital showcase. It is the online expression of a century-old business that built its reputation on British craftsmanship, enduring trust, and the timeless value of protecting what people cherish.
For SUM, the project demonstrates how a luxury website design can carry a brand’s strategy rather than simply display its products, turning a century of craftsmanship and trust into something a visitor can experience directly.
